The Design/Inventor team has the important job of designing parts before the Manufacturing team ever makes them. Right after kickoff, the Design team immediately begins to work on the overall design of that year's robot. Each part to be used on the robot is drawn separately. Parts are then constrained together into different sub-sections. The team then makes 2D drawings of all these parts for Manufacturing to make.

The Design team uses Autodesk Inventor 10, a 3D drafting program, to design and assemble all the parts of the robot. The Design team also submits the drawings it makes each year for the Autodesk Inventor award (an award given by Autodesk and FIRST which recognizes excellence in robot design).
