So, to start off with the basics, my name is Megan Colwell and I am currently a junior. My freshman year I decided to join because my Intro to Engineering teacher stopped me at lunch and talked to me about Cyber Blue; if it wasn’t for him, I probably would have never even thought about joining the team. (Thanks Scott!) During the fall, I walked over to the middle school and mentored a group of students that are a part of FIRST Tech Challenge. I loved working with these kids! They had the funniest jokes, and it was just an awesome feeling to have someone look up to you for answers. I also enjoyed watching their facial expressions after finding out they had to redo a part of the robot, and seeing their reactions when they saw the conveyor and the arm working. Being a part of public relations (PR) has helped me grow as a person. I am more confident when it comes to speaking to engineers or sponsors that I have never met before. In addition, I learn from my mistakes and I feel that the quality of my work has matured over the years. My favorite memory during these three seasons was winning two regionals and Chairman’s in 2007! Throughout build season, a lot of the team members come up with the best jokes about me being short, and I actually enjoy hearing them. They are original, and they really make my day. Robotics is a big part of my life, but I am also President of Key Club (a volunteer organization), Blue Crew, and EPICS (Engineering Projects In Community Service). I stay after school the majority of the week having a board meeting, visiting sponsors, or getting help with an assignment. When I have free time, I love being outside playing sports, fishing, and camping. Outside with nature surrounding you is the best way to relax and forget about how in the world I am going to do that Greaves assignment. After high school, I plan on attending Purdue for an engineering degree (undecided major), or Ball State for architecture.
